Important trust note

Okonomimura is a real food building, but each restaurant sets its own hours, closing days, menu and payment rules. Check the official shop list or a current map listing before going late at night.

How to get there

Okonomimura is near Shintenchi, Hondori, Hatchobori and the Parco area. From Hiroshima Station, take a city streetcar toward Hatchobori and walk a few minutes, or use a taxi if you are arriving with luggage or in heavy rain.

How to choose a shop

  1. Walk the floors first. Look for a seat style and atmosphere that fits your group before committing.
  2. Check the menu outside. If you need English support, non-pork options or allergy clarity, choose the shop that makes this easiest.
  3. Watch seating size. Small counter shops are great solo or in pairs; larger groups may need more patience.
  4. Ask before payment assumptions. Payment method, last order and smoking policy can vary by shop.

Route pairing

After Peace Park

Walk or take a short streetcar/taxi toward Hondori and Shintenchi. Good for a relaxed dinner after a heavy museum visit.

After Miyajima

Return to Hiroshima Station, drop bags if needed, then go to Hatchobori/Hondori for dinner.

Nightlife start

Eat first, then continue to Nagarekawa or a listening bar. Check last transport before the second venue.

Practical notes

  • Solo travel: Counter seating makes Okonomimura easier for solo diners than many restaurants.
  • Families: Go earlier, before the dinner peak, and choose a shop with clear seating space.
  • Non-drinkers: Fine. Order food and soft drinks; do not feel pressured to drink alcohol.
  • Dietary needs: Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki often includes noodles, egg, pork, seafood or sauces. Ask clearly before ordering.
  • Late return: If you continue into Nagarekawa, know whether you are returning to Hiroshima Station, Hondori, Hatchobori or a hotel by taxi.

FAQ

Do I need a reservation?

Usually not for a simple meal, but small shops fill quickly. For groups, go early or check directly with the shop.

Is there one best restaurant?

Not for everyone. Choose based on seating, menu clarity, wait time and comfort rather than chasing one universal ranking.

Can I pay by credit card?

Do not assume. Bring cash and check the shop’s current payment signs.

Is it touristy?

Yes, but still useful. It gives first-time visitors many Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki choices in one compact place.
